Latag is a daybed inspired by the structure of stilt homes, in response to the natural flexibility of bamboo used in traditional frame construction. Latag, named after the cultural practice of rolling out mats on the ground for communal gathering, means “to layer.” The design features the use of line work rather than volume, and the material composition. Using local sustainable wood, master craftsmen carve out each slat of wood into undulating forms for the main frame and weave bamboo rattan into tracery screens for the back.
